SCEP Live Online: Storyteller Nyla Fujii-Babb

Of Asian and Native 51ĀŅĀ×»»ĘŽian ancestry, Nyla (Ching) Fujii-Babb has been a professional storyteller, artistic director, voiceover talent, producer, and actress for over 40 years in 51ĀŅĀ×»»ĘŽā€˜i and on the mainland. She has appeared on stage with Kumu Kahua Theatre Company, Honolulu Theatre for Youth, Maui Arts and Cultural Center, the 51ĀŅĀ×»»ĘŽā€˜i Ponoi Coalition, The Aratani Japan-America Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Emerson Majestic Theatre in Boston. She has appeared in a few locally produced films and has been a voiceover talent for a number of 51ĀŅĀ×»»ĘŽā€˜i Public Television specials. She has been a featured teller at numerous mainland festivals including the Illinois Storytelling Festival, the St. Louis Storytelling Festival at the Arch, and the Bay Area Storytelling Festival in California. She was an ā€œexchange placeā€ and a ā€œfeatured storytellerā€ at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee. She has performed as a live-stream actress for Kumu Kahua Theatre Company, the 51ĀŅĀ×»»ĘŽā€˜i Ponoi Coalition and for the University of 51ĀŅĀ×»»ĘŽā€˜i Outreach Collegeā€™s SCEP online. Nyla is on the Board of Monkey Waterfall Dance Theatre Company. A retired librarian, she is also adjunct faculty for the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences. The Fall International Storyteller Series is presented in conjunction with the 51ĀŅĀ×»»ĘŽā€˜i Book and Music Festival.
